How to Book a Lisbon Sail: Docks, Drinks and the Fine Print (2026)
The short answer. There is no ticket for the river: you book a seat on a boat, and the fare covers the boat, the crew and a drink or more. Pick the dock first, then the slot, then the boat and what it pours, and read the cancellation terms before you pay. Our sailing trips in Lisbon are set side by side by dock and drink.
Quick facts before you book
- Docks: four stretches of riverfront, Belém, Santo Amaro, Alcântara and downtown by Praça do Comércio. Your booking names the gate.
- Length: two hours on most boats; 90 minutes on the sunset catamaran; one hour on the cheapest sail.
- Fares: $28 to $69 a person on a shared boat, and $289 for a whole boat for up to six. As of September 2026; check your date.
- Cancellation: a full refund up to 24 hours ahead on every boat we list.
- Not in any fare: hotel pickup, and tips where the crew accept them.
Which dock is yours?
The boats leave from four places spread along about six kilometres of the north bank, and none of them is simply "the marina". Belém has two marinas side by side. Santo Amaro sits directly under the bridge. Alcântara is the next dock east, and the downtown station is by the city's main square. A taxi to the wrong one costs you twenty minutes you may not have.

Some operators meet you at a van rather than a gate. Lisbon By Boat asks you to type its own name into a map or taxi app instead of the street address. The crew at the Doca do Bom Sucesso van wear white polo shirts and blue jackets. Which slot: sunset or daytime?
Most boats sell the sunset, but not every departure is a sunset one. The ten-guest wine sail from Santo Amaro runs several slots a day, and only the last is timed for the sunset. Lisbon By Boat sells its daytime sail as a separate product from its sunset one. Read the start time on your date, not the photo on the listing.

Where a boat has a bar, the extra rounds are paid on board. Where it has none, what the fare pours is what you get. If the wine matters, the Lisbon sunset and wine sailing tours are built around it. The cancellation terms, and the two traps
Every boat we list refunds the full fare if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start. Inside 24 hours nothing comes back, and Lisbon By Boat accepts no changes inside that window either. If the operator cancels for weather, you are offered another date or a full refund. Some boats also need a minimum number of passengers and may move or cancel your trip without it.
The two traps are about the clock. On the sunset catamaran, a late arrival or a no-show gets no refund at all: the operator will only move you to another date. And Go Sailing makes arriving 30 minutes early mandatory, not a suggestion. Book the slot you can reach with time to spare.
The rules on board
- Shoes: no high heels on the one-hour sail or the open-bar yacht; flat soles everywhere else too.
- Wine: red wine is banned on the wine sail with a helm and on the open-bar yacht.
- Your own food: banned on the day-or-sunset sail from Alcântara; welcome on the wine sail from Santo Amaro.
- Age: the open-bar yacht takes no children under 6, and one Belém sail sets the drinking age at 18.
- Mobility: no boat we list is wheelchair accessible.
How long to allow
A two-hour sail takes most of an evening once you add the ride to the dock, the 15 minutes early that most operators ask for, and the ride back. Five mistakes first-time visitors make
- Going to the wrong dock. Belém, Santo Amaro, Alcântara and downtown are not one place. Read the gate on your confirmation.
- Booking a daytime slot for the sunset. Check the start time against the sunset on your date.
- Arriving on the minute. Most boats want you 15 minutes early; one wants 30.
- Expecting a bar. On a two-drink boat, two drinks is the evening.
- Dressing for the afternoon. The return leg is cold; bring a layer.
