You can sail on the Tagus in every month. What changes is when the sun sets, how warm the deck is, and how often the weather cancels a trip. If you are planning a Tagus river sailing trip, this is what each month gives you.
Go in May, June or September. The evenings are warm, the sunset is late, and rain is light. In midsummer the sun sets around 21:00, so a sunset sail ends after dark. From November to January it sets before 18:00, and a rainy day can cancel your sail.
Book an early day of your trip, not the last. If the weather cancels your sail, you then have time to go again.
Sunset in Lisbon moves by almost four hours across the year. The earliest is about 17:15 in early December; the latest is about 21:05 in early July. Portugal keeps winter time (UTC+0) and moves to summer time (UTC+1) on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October.

Times are for Praça do Comércio and move by a minute or so along the river. Your booking shows the start time for your date: sunset departures leave before the sun goes down, so check it rather than the table.
Match it to a boat: sunset sails, wine sails and bigger cruise boats.
Afternoons warm from 19 °C to 22 °C at the IPMA station, and rain falls on six to eight days a month. The clocks go forward at the end of March, and sunset jumps past 19:45. This is when a sunset sail starts to fit before dinner.
This is the warmest and driest stretch, with afternoons of 26 °C to 28 °C. Sunset comes after 20:00 all summer, so a sunset sail ends in the dark. The summer north wind, the nortada, often blows hard in the afternoon. That fills the sails, but it can also mean a bumpier ride.
September is still warm, at about 27 °C by day, and sunset falls back towards 19:45. Rain returns in October and November. The clocks go back at the end of October, and sunset drops to about 17:30.
Nights fall to about 8 °C at the coldest, and this is the wettest part of the year. Sunset is around 17:15 to 18:15, so you are back before dinner. Wrap up: every reviewer who mentions the cold says the return leg is the cold part.
Most listings sell a sunset slot, and some also sell morning and afternoon sails. One wine sail says only its last slot of the day meets the sunset. Pick your slot by what you want from the two hours.

The day sails suit you if you get cold easily or travel with children. A morning or afternoon sail brings you back in daylight.
Book as soon as your dates are fixed. In late September 2026, one wine sail's listing carried a "likely to sell out" flag. Several sailboats take only ten guests.
Each listed boat cancels free up to 24 hours before the start. After that, nothing is refunded. If the weather or a lack of passengers cancels your sail, the operator offers you another date or a full refund.
Sunset times are calculated for Praça do Comércio with NOAA's solar-position method, on the Lisbon clock. The temperatures and rain are IPMA's climate normals for Lisbon. The departure slots are the operators' own listings, as of 28 September 2026.
